Docking the screen into the keyboard puts the Classmate 3 back into laptop mode, where the device becomes practical, but unexciting. The docked tablet felt wobbly on the hinge and we had to jab at the chunky plastic touchpad to right-click or left-click. The keyboard has its own battery, meaning it can recharge the tablet after use. The full specs won’t be available until February, but Stone tells us there’s 2GB of RAM and 64GB flash storage. There’s only one USB 3 port – which feels stingy -- a micro SD slot and micro HDMI. It also features a rear, 5-megapixel snapper, a 1.3-megapixel front camera and a rotating 1-megapixel webcam, as well as integrated audio, speaker and microphone. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 802.11bgn wireless and support for a 3G SIM. Optional sensors include NFC and GPS.We haven’t spent enough time with the Classmate 3 to give a proper verdict -- and will do a full review when one lands in the labs -- but something tougher than an iPad could make sense for schools now that more are switching to tablets.Lenovo's Yogas have been the pick of the hybrid bunch since they first appeared, and the ThinkPad Yoga brings the design to the firm's famed business-laptop range. See also: what's the best laptop you can buy in 2014?

The result looks and feels exactly as you'd hope from a marriage of two such successful designs. The build is sturdy and superbly rigid: the matte-black plastics feel high-quality throughout, and there's barely a hint of creak or flex. The keyboard is, as usual, superb, with a sensible layout and keys that boast a light-yet-positive action, allowing for quick, accurate touch-typing from the moment you pull the laptop from its box. Lenovo's trademark red trackpoint – set into the keyboard between the G, H and B keys – remains in place for touch-typists who prefer to control the cursor without their fingers leaving the keyboard. The hybrid mechanism works in the same way as previous Yoga devices. A fully articulated hinge allows the 12.5in touchscreen to be pushed back and around a full 360 degrees, so the laptop can be used in a variety of configurations. With the display folded flat against the base, it can serve as a Windows 8.1 tablet. With it folded almost all the way back, it can be used in "stand" mode, with the keyboard planted face down on the desk. And you can flip it around and prop it up in "tent" mode – ideal for cramped spaces.

The ThinkPad Yoga isn't simply a me-too design. A number of key differences separate it from consumer-focused devices such as the recent IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro. The most ingenious is the "lift-and-lock" keyboard. We aren't fond of the name, but we love what it does: as you push the screen back into tablet or stand mode, the plastic plate surrounding the keys rises until it's flush with the tops of the keys, while another mechanism locks the keys so they don't depress. This may sound like a gimmick, but it makes the device feel more like a bona fide tablet than previous Yogas: when you grip it, there are no disconcertingly squishy keys on the rear. There's also less likelihood of damage to the keys from catching on the seam of a pocket, for example. It's just a shame that it's such a lump: at 1.6kg, tablet mode isn't particularly comfortable unless you rest it on something.Another difference is the pressure-sensitive passive stylus, which stows away in the front-right corner of the wristrest when not in use. It's a boon for creative tasks, such as digital painting and photo editing, and it adds the possibility of using Windows 8.1's excellent handwriting recognition to your text-entry toolbox.

Alas, stylus support isn't standard across the full ThinkPad Yoga Range: it's included in our upper-end review model, and the Core i3 model just below it, but the two cheaper configurations, priced at £780 and £930 respectively, support finger-touch only. One updated feature is the touchpad: instead of hinging from the top as before, the whole surface of the pad now depresses with a solid thunk. This has its advantages: trackpoint users no longer need a second set of buttons just below the keyboard, since it's now possible to simply click the top edge of the pad. It also means the pad can be larger, making multi-finger gestures easier to perform. We're not entirely convinced by the implementation, though. It's heavily sprung, which isn't a problem in casual use, but with jobs that involve a lot of clicking around – updating a website CMS, for instance, or photo editing – you're going to get tired fingers very quickly. If you choose to tap rather than click, the whole pad rattles slightly.

The final novelty is Lenovo's OneLink connector, which takes the form of an extended power socket on the left-hand edge of the laptop. It's Lenovo's take on the old-style docking port found on the bottom of many business laptops, and it supports charging, data and video across a single cable. The forthcoming Lenovo OneLink Dock will use this port to add three USB 3 ports, a pair of USB 2 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, DVI and full-size DisplayPort.A London-registered company appears to be at the centre of a massive attack that's redirecting traffic from 300,000 routers, a security firm has said.Florida-based security firm Team Cymru said it was examining a "widespread compromise" of consumer and small office/home office (SOHO) routers in Europe and Asia.In January, the firm uncovered a "SOHO pharming" campaign that had overwritten DNS settings on 300,000 routers. That allows attackers to redirect traffic to sites and domains controlled by them, "effectively conducting a man-in-the-middle attack," the company's report said.If your router's been hijacked and is pointing to someone else's DNS server, you really have no trust over what you're actually gettingIf your router's been hijacked and is pointing to someone else's DNS server, you really have no trust over what you're actually getting

"If [your router's] been hijacked and is pointing to someone else's DNS server, you really have no trust over what you're actually getting - you could be getting the bad guy's version of Google, or your bank site," Team Cymru spokesman Steve Santorelli told PC Pro. "It's very clever."The routers' DNS settings were changed to two IP addresses, both of which are for machines that are physically in the Netherlands, but registered with UK company 3NT Solutions, he said."The analogy I'd use is there's a bank robbery in Utrecht, for example, and the police stop the car," Santorelli said. "The car used is actually there physically in Holland, but it's registered to someone in the UK."The website for 3NT Solutions was offline at the time of writing and the company could not be reached for comment. Its registered address is a Mailboxes Etc location in central London. The company caught the eye of security researcher Conrad Longmore, who posted his "reservations" about 3NT Solutions on his Dynamoo blog last week."Alright, let's cut a long story short because we know who this is... it's Serbian web host inferno.name who have featured on this blog several times before all the way back to 2011," he said. "Similar records exist on all of 3NT's ranges, linking them firmly with inferno.name."

Longmore described 3NT/Inferno.name as a "known bad actor" that ran malicious and "spammy" sites - and advised admins to "block all their IPs on sight".Cymru's Santorelli stressed that the router attack was serious. "It's not new as an issue to the InfoSec community but this is one of the biggest we've seen recently as it's quite insidious," he said.Santorelli said that rather than delay reporting the flaw, his firm notified authorities and took it public immediately. "This is kind of a sea-change in the way people have been approaching security," he said. "This isn't the first time this kind of thing's been spotted, but it's certainly the biggest in recent memory."The attack affects devices from several manufacturers, the firm said said, adding that "consumer unfamiliarity" with configuring routers and weak default settings makes the devices a "very attractive target".Indeed, security researchers at Tripwire spotted a series of flaws in routers last year, while D-Link rushed out a patch to fix a back door to admin settings.Santorelli said the problem wasn't a hardware flaw, but weaknesses in ZyXEL's widely used router firmware, ZynOS.

"It's about the people who write the original firmware... this is ubiquitous firmware," he said. "It's on all these very good value, cheap routers - it's really a firmware vendors' problem than a hardware manufacturers' problem."However, he added that Cymru Team didn't want to single out any one company or manufacturer as the cause of the problem, saying such attacks were a "natural evolution" in the security battle. "It's just another thing you need to check - but unfortunately there isn't antivirus for routers."It's not just about password control and antivirus on your laptop, now you've got to look at all... stages of how the packet gets from your Google search, out to Google, and back againIt's not just about password control and antivirus on your laptop, now you've got to look at all... stages of how the packet gets from your Google search, out to Google, and back again"It's not just about password control and antivirus on your laptop, now you've got to look at all... stages of how the packet gets from your Google search, out to Google, and back again," Santorelli said.To stay safe, Santorelli recommended checking your router's DNS settings, ensuring that the IP addresses you end up at are legitimate, and updating your firmware.

The report added that if the attackers' servers are shut down, it could cause trouble for victims. "As with the DNSChanger malware, unwitting victims are vulnerable to a loss of service if the malicious servers are taken down, as both primary and secondary DNS IP addresses are overwritten, complicating mitigation," the report added.Mobile technology already lies at the heart of modern business. Where once enterprise computing was all about the desktop PC, these days it’s drifting in favour of ultra-mobile laptops, tablets and smartphones. Workers are rejecting the old-style, PC-focused one-size-fits-all approach and reaching for the right tool for the job at hand, even if it’s their own device. Meanwhile, IT managers and CIOs are working feverishly to support them. In an always online, connected world, mobile devices are helping us do business and stay productive, wherever we might be.

Yet this is only the beginning. So far the mobile revolution has focused on the smartphone and the tablet. These devices won’t be going anywhere, but in next few years we’ll see them joined by a new breed of wearable devices, all connecting wirelessly to a universe of connected technology. The effects for business could be transformative. Thanks to Google Glass, Fitness Bands and pioneering smart watches, interest in wearable technology has never been higher. Yet while it’s easy to see why consumers are excited by the potential of devices that put the latest social media updates or sat-nav instructions in your field of view, or that track how many steps you’ve taken and calories you’ve burned on this morning’s run, the business applications might not be so apparent.Consider it for a minute, though, and all becomes clear. Devices like Google Glass could be incredibly useful in the business world. Combine the discrete delivery of information within the wearer’s field of view, a built-in camera, voice recognition and motion sensors, and you have a device with myriad applications. The most obvious ones are for field workers, technicians, warehouse staff or anyone who needs to work on the move, access information and keep their hands free. Imagine technicians being able to access schematics or instructions without having to take their eyes off the job, or warehouse staff being directed from one place to another while operating machinery or lifting heavy items. Need to identify a component or get information on a product? All you’ll need to do is look.
