The notebook's 720p webcam did a fine job capturing my face and patterned blue shirt. Finer details such as facial stubble and birthmarks became a bit blurred, but I can't imagine my colleagues having a hard time recognizing me on a video call with this camera. The Yoga 900s is mostly devoid of bloatware, packing just a handful of Lenovo utilities to complement default Windows 10 apps such as OneDrive and Skype. Lenovo's ShareIt tool allows you to quickly beam files between your phone and PC, while ReachIt lets you access various cloud accounts such as Google Drive and Dropbox from a single app.
Lenovo Companion provides a central hub for checking your system's health, downloading updates and viewing your warranty status, while Lenovo Settings allows you to tweak display, sound and camera settings and even lets you turn the PC into a mobile hotspot. The Yoga 900s ships with a standard one-year warranty. We reviewed the $1,099 starting Yoga 900s, which includes a 12.5-inch 1080p touch display, an Intel Core m5-6Y54 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB PCIe SSD. If you spend just $50 more on Lenovo's website, you'll get a faster Core m7 CPU, a sharper 2560 x 1440 quad-HD display and 8GB of RAM, which seems like a no-brainer. However, we expect the QHD version to offer less battery life.
Both configurations come in Champagne Gold or Platinum Silver. The Yoga 900s is an excellent blend of style and substance, packing a crisp, 1080p display and cozy keyboard into a wonderfully luxurious design. The Yoga's 360-degree hinge makes it both an impressive laptop and responsive tablet, and its 8-hour-plus battery life will get you through a long day of work. However, the Core m5 model we tested is slower than other ultraportables that have the same CPU.
If you're willing to live with what is likely less battery life, we recommend you consider the faster Core m7 version, which costs only $50 more (right now) and also includes a sharper QHD screen and double the RAM and storage. Don't need a convertible? Apple's 12-inch MacBook is similarly sleek and offers more powerful high-end configs, as does the Dell XPS 13. Still, if you're seeking a laptop that's as versatile as it is gorgeous, there's a lot to love about the Yoga 900s. GIGABYTE has introduced its new Aero 14 gaming laptop, which weds a relatively thin form-factor with high-performance components such as an Intel Skylake-H CPU, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPU, along with a high-resolution display and a claim of a 10-hour battery life. The new notebooks are designed for those who would like to have decent performance in games, but who are not ready to sacrifice mobility for gaming.
The GIGABYTE Aero 14 is based on the Intel Core i7 H-series processor (four cores with Hyper-Threading technology, 6 MB LLC cache, 45 W TDP, dual-channel DDR4 memory controller, integrated Intel Gen9 graphics core) and is equipped with a 14” IPS display panel with a 2560×1440 resolution. The system can be equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M (1024 stream processors, 64 texture units, 32 raster operations pipelines) or the 970M (1280 SPs, 80 TUs, 48 ROPs) graphics adapters, up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory (using two 16 GB SO-DIMMs) as well as two SSDs in M.2 form-factor (with PCIe 3.0 x2 interface). For some reason, GIGABYTE decided not to reveal exact details regarding things like Wi-Fi as well as the amount of VRAM, but it is natural to expect the PC of this class to feature 802.11ac.

In a bid to make the system even friendlier to gamers, GIGABYTE included a keyboard featuring five programmable keys to simplify input of complex key combinations. Other I/O capabilities of GIGABYTE’s Aero 14 include one USB 3.1 Type-C receptacle, three USB 3.0 ports, a TRRS audio connector, a SD card reader, an HD webcam, built-in speakers and microphones as well as an HDMI 2.0 and an mDP display output. The Aero 14 comes in a full aluminum chassis, though, we are not dealing with a unibody design here. GIGABYTE offers three color options for the display lid, with black, green and orange to emphasize gaming nature of the device.
Despite of rather powerful hardware inside, the Aero 14 boasts with a 10-hour battery life (obviously, when the integrated graphics core is used), which is in-line with that of modern business notebooks. To make such long battery life possible, GIGABYTE integrated a 94.24 WHr lithium-ion polymer accumulator into its gaming laptop. The Aero 14 is 19.9 mm thick and weighs 1.89 kilograms, making it one of the lightest and thinnest notebooks with gaming-grade hardware inside.
The Aero 14 from GIGABYTE will, among other products, compete against Razer’s Blade, which is also relatively thin (17.9 mm) and sports a 14” display. When compared to the Aero, the Razer Blade has a higher resolution 3200×1800 display, slimmer chassis, as well as Thunderbolt 3 support. However, GIGABYTE’s machine has larger battery, potentially more DDR4 memory (because the Blade uses soldered down DRAM and cannot be upgraded), potentially higher amount of storage (thanks to two M.2 slots) as well programmable keys.Exact pricing of GIGABYTE’s Aero 14 will depend on actual configuration, but typically, gaming machines from the company are not overpriced.
Ultra-portable gaming laptops are not that easy to find, but Gigabyte has an intriguing new proposition with its latest Aero 14. Unveiled at Computex 2016 on Monday, May 30, the new Gigabyte Aero 14 manages to combine both power and portability in a sleek, slim and thin gaming laptop. The notebook features a 14-inch high-resolution IPS display (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), a sixth-generation Intel Skylake core i7-6700HQ processor under the hood, NVIDIA graphics, USB Type-C and can take up to 32 GB of RAM. Powerful specs take a toll on battery life, but the Gigabyte Aero 14 has that covered with a huge 94.24 Wh battery for "full-day productivity." In terms of design and portability, the gaming laptop measures 0.78 inches in thickness and tips the scale at 4.2 pounds.
"Putting an emphasis on maximizing mobility and performance, it claims the title of most portable 14" high performance laptop with a powerful NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M while being only 19.9mm thin," boasts Gigabyte in a new press release. "With the top-level performance and extended battery life in a slim-profile of an Ultrabook, Aero 14 is the mobile solution for both professionals and gamers alike." Graphics options for the Aero 14 include Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M or GTX 970M, while DDR4 memory options include 8 GB or 16 GB, both with two SODIMM slots for up to 32 GB of RAM, as mentioned above. The notebook further packs two M.2 SSD slots, three USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, HDMI 2.0, mini DisplayPort, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and individual macro keys for adjusting the backlit keyboard.
Stereo speakers are also in the mix, as is an HD camera, a headset jack and an SD card reader. It's worth pointing out that the Aero 14 gaming laptop doesn't feature an Ethernet port, but users can opt for an USB-to-LAN adapter. Windows on tablets is better than ever, something Microsoft shows off with its own Surface devices. Those tables are decidedly premium, however, meaning anyone on a budget can’t consider them. That brings us to the Chewi Hi12, a $250 tablet that might tempt anyone who doesn’t want to pay much for a Windows 2-in-1. It dual-boots Windows 10 and Android, offers a 12-inch display, has an Intel Atom Z8300 quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. While that’s not a great set of specs, the price is right, and another $50 nets you a compatible keyboard dock with a touchpad. You’ve probably never heard of Chuwi, a tablet maker based in Shenzhen, China. The company is trying to make waves in the North American market, but it’s enthusiasm is lost in translation – often literally. The company’s slogan is “Chuwi tablet wisdom science and technology life.” The newsletter box says to “make yourself useful, subscribe us.” We could go on.
