Dell XPS 13 is a 13.3-inch laptop with Full HD display. This laptop comes with 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD and Intel Core i5-6200U 2.30 GHz processor. There are non-touchscreen and touchscreen versions available, and both versions are running on Windows 10. Dell XPS 13 is powered by 4-cell smart lithium-ion 56WHr battery that can last up to 12 hours on a single charge.

If you are a gamer and you’re looking for a gaming Windows 10 laptop with a decent battery, Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK is just what you need. This device comes with i5-6300HQ 2.3 GHz Quad-Core processor, 8GB DDR3L and 256GB SSD. Thanks to Nvidia GTX 960M 4GB GPU and 15.6-inch display, you’ll be able to enjoy in your favorite games in 1920×1080 resolution.Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is another 2-in-1 Windows 10 laptop with 360-degree hinge that you can use in standard, tablet or tent mode. This device comes with 11.6-inch 16:9 WXGA display, integrated Intel graphics and up to 128GB SSD. Additional specifications include up to Intel Pentium Quad-Core N3700 Processor and up to 4GB DDR3L memory.

Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA uses 38Whrs Polymer Battery that can last almost 11 hours on a single charge. If you’re looking for an affordable 2-in-1 Windows 10 device with a great battery, this laptop might be perfect for you.ASUS Zenbook UX305LA-AB51 is a 13.3-inch Full-HD Windows 10 laptop powered by Intel Core i5-5200U 2.2GHz. Additional specifications include 8GB RAM and 256GB solid state drive. This laptop comes with slim aluminum body, and thanks to its Li-Ion battery it can last up to more than 10 hours without recharging.

Another nice value-add is the presence of a fingerprint reader that’s fully compatible with Windows 10’s Windows Hello feature. It’s a simple swipe fingerprint sensor that works reliably well as long as your hands are dry, and Windows 10 makes it easy to register one or more fingers with the device. The more advanced iris scanner feature isn’t available, but smartphones have made fingerprint-based unlocking so commonplace that I’m hoping to see it in more consumer laptops going forward.

The base model Envy runs Windows 10 Home with a heaping helping of pre-installed software, including Shockwave Player (really?), several CyberLink photo and media programs, Dropbox and Evernote, a bunch of HP utilities, and the ubiquitous McAfee antivirus (which we’d recommend uninstalling in favour of a free package or, if you’re comfortable with it, the built-in Windows Defender). There’s a 3GB-ish folder of drivers and apps in an “SWSetup” folder, too.

Once all Windows 10 updates were installed and we had run Disk Cleanup to get rid of old update files, HP’s loadout took up 31.8GB of disk space, quite a bit higher than a base Windows 10 installation. You can recover quite a bit of space by deleting that driver folder and uninstalling apps you don’t need, though. At least with Windows 10 you don’t need to give up multiple gigabytes of space to a large OEM recovery partition. The Envy 13 includes Core i5 or Core i7 processors based on Intel’s new Skylake architecture, paired with the Intel HD 520 integrated GPU. This is one area where the Envy definitely has an unambiguous edge on the Zenbook. As much as Skylake improves the low-voltage Core M processor lineup, the Core CPUs and their GPUs are still much faster.

Other components include 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM (1866MHz RAM helps with integrated graphics performance, but HP opted not to use it), an 867Mbps 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter, Bluetooth 4.0, and SATA III SSDs (not PCI Express). Our review unit has a 2.3GHz (2.8GHz Turbo) Core i5-6200U, just a bit slower than the CPU in our Surface Pro 4 review unit. It benchmarks pretty similarly, though the slower memory does hurt its GPU performance a bit.At this point we really wish more OEMs would get on board with PCI Express SSDs, especially once we’re up in this price range. The Envy’s SATA III SSD performs about the same as other laptops that use the same interface. Bear in mind that 256GB and larger drives generally perform better than 128GB drives because there are more NAND chips to read from and write to at once, which is why the write performance is lower—upgrade the SSD and things will get faster.

Unfortunately, battery life is a weak point for the Envy. It lasted around seven hours and 20 minutes in our light Wi-Fi browsing test, which is still pretty good if you’re replacing an older laptop, but it’s significantly lower than other Skylake and Broadwell laptops and convertibles we’ve tested in the last year.HP’s Envy 13 is a good laptop, but not good enough to enter that top tier of Windows Ultrabooks. It offers good performance, a nice screen, and the price isn’t bad. But Asus’ UX305C offers double the storage, a slightly better keyboard, much better battery life, and similar screen options for £100 less. You do give up a fair amount of CPU and GPU performance with the Asus laptop, and the HP laptop’s fingerprint reader is nice, but it’s fast enough for most things, and it’s fanless, which is nice.

On the premium end of things, the newest version of the XPS 13 has a more impressive screen, a touchscreen, a great trackpad, Thunderbolt 3 (and thus, DisplayPort and better 4K support), and PCI Express storage options. It can get much more expensive, but if money’s no object, it’s unquestionably the better laptop. If you're in the market for an Ultrabook right now, the Envy 13 has its charms, but unfortunately it's not one of the first ones we'd recommend. The battery packs risk overheating due to a manufacturing flaw, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).The recall includes battery packs sold with Sony’s VAIO E Series notebooks with product codes SVE15137CGP, SVE15137CGS and SVE15138CGW.The notebooks were sold nationally by authorised VAIO resellers, including Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi, from 1 December 2012 to 1 September 2013.

Sony has issued a statement apologising for the inconvinience and asking customers to call their customer service team to discuss the next step."The issue is a manufacturing one which has the potential to burn parts of the battery packs. We are implementing a free replacement program for the affected battery packs," Sony said in a statement."If you are using one of the VAIO personal computer models listed below, please confirm if your battery pack is one of those affected via the link below. If it is identified as an affected unit, please immediately remove the battery pack from your PC. With the battery pack removed, you may continue to use your PC safely with an AC adapter."

Sony also pointed out that the affected battery packs were provided by Panasonic. This is the fourth laptop battery recall the ACCC has flagged this year. Microsoft commenced a mass recall of power cords in January, which affected all Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 devices sold before 15 July 2015.Fujitsu Ltd. said Thursday it will voluntarily recall and provide replacements for about 70,000 battery packs used in some of its Lifebook laptop computer models as they could catch fire.

The company has so far confirmed three cases of fire linked to the battery, manufactured by Panasonic Corp., but said there have been no reports of injuries. The battery packs are used in some of the laptop models sold in Japan between 2011 and 2012 and those sold overseas in 2012, it said.Product numbers and serial numbers of those subjected to the latest recall are posted on Fujitsu’s website.Consumers should immediately go to the firm's website and click on the battery pack utility link in the first shadowed box on the page. Consumers can also perform a manual check using the laptop and battery pack's model, part and serial numbers. If it is part of the recall, consumers should power off the laptop, remove the battery and follow the instructions to obtain a free replacement battery pack. Until a replacement battery pack is received, consumers should use the laptop by plugging into AC power only.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually. CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical or mechanical hazard. CPSC's work to ensure the safety of consumer products - such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals – contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years.

The HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Laptop proves it's possible to get a decent gaming laptop for under $1,000, but not without making some sacrifices. The $999 rig delivers solid overall performance, but you'll have to turn down the settings to play most games at the screen's native, 1080p resolution. The Razer-inspired keyboard offers a good typing experience, while the CoolSense technology keeps the temperature within a reasonable range.

Despite its strengths, we can't overlook the Pavilion's dim display, slow transfer times and short battery life. For the same price, you can get the Lenovo Y700, which offers a brighter and more vibrant display, better audio, faster performance, and an elegant aluminum chassis. However, if you want a competent, sub-$1000 gaming laptop that can perform productivity tasks with ease, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is worth considering.Law360, New York (February 17, 2016, 9:00 PM ET) -- A Pennsylvania federal judge on Wednesday dismissed Samsung from a suit over an allegedly defective Samsung battery in a Hewlett-Packard laptop that sparked a house fire, finding that Allstate failed to properly serve Samsung in South Korea. U.S. District Judge Yvette Kane sided with Samsung SDI Co. Ltd.’s argument that Allstate Insurance Co. didn’t file a certificate of service, as required by the Hague Convention, of its March 2015 suit claiming that the allegedly defective laptop battery was the cause of a house fire in Harrisburg. The Hague Convention governs whether Allstate validly served notice to Samsung in South Korea, since both that country and the U.S. are signatories to the treaty, the judge said.

Under the Hague Convention, a certificate that a complaint has been served needs to state that it has been served, how, where, when and to whom, the judge said.On Sept. 25, Allstate filed an unsworn certificate of service that Samsung had been served, and attached a July request to serve Samsung, a blank certificate and a one-page document “that appears to be in Korean,” without an accompanying translation, the judge said.“Allstate’s submission of the untranslated document leaves the Court to guess the document’s contents and, thereby, unable to evaluate whether service is proper under the Hague Convention,” the judge said.

Even though it’s not necessary to strictly comply with the Hague Convention, the judge said that without any explanation of what the untranslated document is, she can’t find that Allstate has met its burden of proving it complied with the treaty. On Oct. 14, 2013, Allstate — as the subrogee of Stacie and Alberto Velez, whose house caught fire — filed suit against Hewlett-Packard, claiming that an allegedly defective laptop caused the fire. Shortly after, Hewlett-Packard filed a third-party complaint against Samsung, alleging that the battery was the source of the fire, according to the judge. Samsung is still party to that suit. Then on March 25, 2014, Allstate hit Samsung and Samsung America with a complaint over the allegedly defective battery, according to the opinion.

That complaint was consolidated with the two others last January, the judge said.Samsung also argued that Allstate had failed to make a reasonable and timely effort to serve it in Korea, according to the judge.“Specifically, Samsung Korea claims that Allstate did not attempt to comply with the Hague Convention’s service provisions until ‘over 16 months’ after filing the Allstate Complaint on March 25, 2014,” the judge said.Under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, a plaintiff has 120 days to serve a defendant after a complaint is filed, but that time limit doesn’t apply to service in a foreign country, since timely service is often out of the plaintiff’s control, the judge said.

However, several circuit courts have held that the time to serve process in a foreign country isn’t endless, the judge noted.“The Second Circuit, for example, has ‘held inapplicable the foreign country exception to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 4(m)’s 120-day time limit for service where a party did not attempt service within the 120-day limit and "had not exactly bent over backward to effect service,"’” the judge said.“The record indicates that Allstate did not attempt service abroad until June 2015, at least 14 months after Allstate filed its March 25, 2014, complaint,” the judge said.Representatives for the parties didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.Samsung is represented by Michael A. Boomsma of Post & Schell PC.Allstate is represented by Raymond E. Mack and Kevin M. McBeth of de Luca Levine LLC.
