Samsung has already committed to bringing the Gear Manager app to iOS, so that iPhone users can use Gear smartwatches like the Gear S2. Samsung is also reportedly going to launch the S Health app on iOS, which would mean that Apple’s own Health app will get a major competitor. It’s also possible that Samsung is going to launch an app that would enable iOS devices to support the 18.4-inch Galaxy View tablet. The Remote Control app and the Family Square app would enable iPhone users to control and stream content to the tablet from their iOS devices.

Samsung also might introduce a new Level app for iOS, which would enable owners of the Level Box Mini and headphones to add effects and control volume and playback with their iPhones. It’s also reportedly updating the Smart Camera app for iOS, and Curry reports that Samsung is also likely to update a few of the 39 apps it’s introduced for iOS since the App Store launched, particularly since most of them have poor reviews.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Samsung is working on the next generation of its S-series tablets, the Tab S3. But we now have proof that Samsung is working on not one, but two, versions of the next-generation of the well-received Tab S2 tablet. Samsung developed two versions of the Tab S2 — an 8-inch version and a 9.7-inch version — and seems to be planning to offer similar options with the Tab S3.

According to Samsung Rumors, an import and export site in India has listed two variants of the tablet. The model numbers associated with the devices are SM-T814 for a 9.7-inch version, and SM-T719 for an 8-inch version. As Samsung Rumors notes, the company typically sends samples of its devices to the Indian subcontinent for testing, since it has a strong R&D base in the country. The Tab S3 follows what was widely regarded as one of the best tablets of 2015, and it’s expected to feature upgraded internal components.

According to Samsung Rumors, a patent filing reveals that the Note 6 could slot into a laptop-like dock, where it could function not only as the computer’s touchpad, but also as its processor and memory. The dock would have a 13-inch to 15-inch display, and would be equipped with an internal battery. It would also feature a full-sized keyboard, and while it isn’t clear whether the screen it touch-enabled, there do appear to be Usb ports and a microSD card slot.

The Exynos 8890 that the Note 6 is expected to feature would enable the phone to provide the computing muscle for the device. But it’s unclear what operating system the device would use. (Samsung Rumors suggests that an enhanced version of Android, with more desktop-friendly features, seems like a likely candidate.) Samsung isn’t the first manufacturer to implement the idea; devices from Asus’s Padfone line can be docked into a tablet, and Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 can run Windows 10 using external peripherals and the Display Dock.

As Brad Jones reports for Digital Trends, leaked information seems to indicate that Samsung plans to introduce two ultra-wide monitors for gamers this year. The company is expected to introduce 30 and 35-inch displays, which would feature 3,440 by 1,440 pixel resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and high-spec VA panel technology (which offers benefits with regard to contrast and viewing angles). While IPS technology is regarded as better, overall, than VA technology, IPS isn’t yet compatible with the resolution and refresh rate that Samsung’s monitors are expected to feature.

Jones notes that the refresh rate indicates that these monitors are likely to be marketed toward gamers, since they’re the type of users most likely to appreciate the responsiveness of a fast refresh rate. The monitors are rumored to be among the first to use DisplayPort 1.3, a technology for which both AMD and Nvidia will begin shipping compatible graphics cards around the same time that Samsung’s monitors are expected to appear. The 35-inch monitor is expected to be available in the second quarter of the year, while the 30-inch monitor is expected in the third quarter of the year.

What is my IP address from the outside? What is my DNS info? Who is my ISP? What is my Whois info? What is my browser header data? Ever wondered what your computer looks like to the outsiders, as in what your digital fingerprint looks like? Here is some information about you, such as browser type and IP address, and some information about this site, such as server type and IP address. There are also Whois and DNS dumps on your ISP, if available. LAS VEGAS — It's enough to make you want to drop everything and race for the nearest power outlet: Your workday isn't even done, and your smartphone or laptop battery is already in the red zone.

If you're hoping that techno-progress will dispel that depleted feeling, you may be in for a long wait. Battery life is constrained by limitations in chemistry, and improvements aren't keeping pace with demands from modern gadgets.

We're still dependent on the venerable lithium-ion cell, first commercialized by Sony in 1991; it's light, safe and holds a lot of charge relative to most alternatives, but it isn't getting better fast enough to keep up with our growing electronic demands.

So instead, manufacturers are doing their best to “cheat” their way around lithium-ion's limitations. The CES gadget show in Las Vegas this week featured plenty of workarounds that aim to keep your screen lit longer.

Proceed with caution, though: Manufacturer claims of battery life improvement can fall short of real-world experience.

NEW CHIPS

Not that long ago, computer-chip makers competed to make their chips ever faster and more capable, with power consumption a secondary consideration. But the boom in energy hungry smartphones and laptops means that companies like Intel need to put much more emphasis on power efficiency these days.

Intel says its sixth-generation Core chips, known as Skylake, add slightly more than an hour of battery life to laptops compared with the previous generation, according to spokesman Scott Massey. The chips use a more compact design, hard-wired functions that used to be run via software and fine-tune how they ramp power use up and down.

BETTER LAPTOPS

Laptop manufacturers are smartly sipping power, too.

HP says the Spectre x360 notebook it introduced in March gains up to 72 minutes of battery life, for a total of up to 13 hours, thanks in part to Intel's new chip. Among other tricks, the PC doesn't refresh the screen as often if the image isn't moving. “If we can solve a bunch of small problems, they can add up,” HP Vice President Mike Nash said.

Similarly, Lenovo's new ThinkPad X1 Yoga tablet turns off its touch screen and keyboard backlight if it senses its owner is walking and has the screen folded back like an open book. Vaio, the computer maker formerly owned by Sony, says its Z Canvas launched in the U.S. in October benefits from shrinking components and efficiently distributing heat to make more room for a bigger battery.

And Dell says it has worked with manufacturers to squeeze more battery capacity into the same space. It says its efforts recently boosted the energy storage of its XPS 13 laptop by 7.7 percent compared to an earlier version of the same mode.

Maybe it's your phone that's not keeping up. If so, you might check out new accessories designed to make it easier and faster to charge back up.

Kickstarter-funded Ampy uses your body's kinetic energy to charge up a pager-sized device. Strap it to your arm or a belt and it can recharge a smartphone in real time; an hour of jogging or similar exercise yields about an hour of use. You could also just throw it in your bag and get the same extra hour of gadget life after a week of walking around — not an awesome trade off, maybe, but possibly better than nothing.

The wireless-charging technology Qi makes it possible to charge a phone without plugging it in. Instead, you lay it down on a special pad and let electromagnetic field coupling do the work. Wireless charging has always been much slower than wired, although Qi's backers say it's speeding up. But wired charging is getting faster, too, at least for phones with the latest hardware — and with Qi, you still have to line up your device just right on the sometimes fussy pads.
