Battery The iPad Pro has a 38.5 Wh battery that can offer up to 10 hours of use. On the other hand, the Galaxy TabPro S has a bigger 39.5 W battery that can offer a slightly higher usage time of 10.5 hours in comparison to the iPad Pro.

Camera The iPad Pro has an 8-megapixel iSight camera and a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera. The Samsung tablet, on the other hand, has 5-megapixel front- and rear-facing cameras.

Operating System The Galaxy TabPro S is pre-installed with Windows 10, while the iPad Pro runs on iOS 9.

It's also pretty light as a 15-inch laptop, weighing only four pounds even with its completely CNC'ed aluminum chassis. This makes it almost half a pound lighter than both the 4.49 pounds (2.04kg) MacBook Pro and 4.4 pounds (2kg) Dell XPS 15 – of course, both of these machine include dedicated graphics.

Although it's pretty light, HP still managed to cram in a 65 Whr battery inside the HP Spectre x360, which should yield up to The result is up to 13 hours of battery life on the Full HD models and up to 9.5 hours on the Ultra HD models.

Users will get to pick between Intel Core i5 and i7 processors as well as the option of tacking on a 3,820 x 2,160 4K resolution display. The HP Spectre x360 15 can also be loaded up with a 512GB SSD and 8GB of memory.

Zhenan Bao, a professor of chemical engineering at Stanford University, is co-author of a study published in Nature Energy on January 11. The study reports on a new lithium ion battery that shuts itself down if it overheats, then resets and resumes normal functioning after the temperature drops.

Lithium ion batteries become dangerously hot when they reach an internal temperature of about 300 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s why every electric vehicle has either an air or liquid cooling system. One of the primary goals of battery research is to develop batteries that do not need such external cooling systems. Eliminating them would reduce cost, weight and complexity in electric cars.

Exploding lithium ion batteries are nothing new. They have been in the news recently because many of the batteries used to power a new generation of so-called hoverboards have burst into flames. Boeing had problems with the lithium ion batteries used in its new Dreamliner a few years ago.

Others have invented batteries that shut themselves down when they overheat. The problem is, a fire may be prevented but the battery is useless afterwards. The new technology from Stanford allows the battery to resume normal function after it cools. It appears there is no limit on the number of times the “circuit breaker” action can be utilized.

“People have tried different strategies to solve the problem of accidental fires in lithium-ion batteries,” explains Bao, “We’ve designed the first battery that can be shut down and revived over repeated heating and cooling cycles without compromising performance.”

“The potential for mass production is quite high,” notes Bao. She says the materials used are mostly inexpensive plastic and nickel. The new nanoparticle battery restarts without a notable loss of efficiency, which is a critical factor.

The secret is a polymer strip embedded with spikes of nano-scale nickel. When two of the strips are next to each other, the nickel conducts electricity. When the polymer heats up, the polymer distorts, causing the two strips to pull apart, which interrupts the flow of electrons. For non-technical people, think of it as two strips of velcro that can be meshed together and separated many times without losing their bonding ability.

Stanford’s new technology can be customized to interrupt the flow of electrons over a wide temperature range. “We can even tune the temperature higher or lower depending on how many particles we put in or what type of polymer materials we choose,” explained Bao, who is also a professor of chemistry and of materials science and engineering. “For example, we might want the battery to shut down at 50 C or 100 C.”

The new battery technology will be adaptable to any lithium ion battery, whether it is in a laptop, cell phone or electric vehicle. Battery fires in EVs are rare but spectacular when they occur. The Stanford discovery could calm the fears of many who still think of lithium ion batteries as potentially dangerous, even though they power virtually all of the electronic devices we rely on in our daily life today.

The ideapad Y700 Touch 15-inch gaming laptop came out of the box with what you would expect. There’s the laptop, a 100-240V ~2.5A 50-60Hz input/20V 6.75A AC adapter and the typical paperwork. It does come with a few accessories though. They include a Y Gaming Mechanical Keyboard, Y Gaming Surround Sound Headset, Y Gaming Precision Mouse and Y Gaming Active Backpack.

When you open the box, it’s easy to tell the laptop is high-caliber. From brushed aluminum to sharp edges, the laptop screams futuristic appeal. Its sleek angles are accentuated only by its red and black colors.

Upon opening, you’ll notice the keyboard sports black keys with the added red-edges that light up. Below the keyboard is a fairly large trackpad. Above is the power button and two red speakers. The trackpad was wonderful to use and the keyboard was great to type on. One of my biggest gripes with this laptop is the layout. Often times whenever I went to hit the backspace key I’d end up hitting the delete key. While the keypad was a welcome addition to the laptop, it butted up next to the keyboard and I kept pressing buttons I didn’t want to.

On the bottom of the laptop is a circle speaker grill that’s red. That’s where the 3-watt subwoofer is housed. On the left side is the DC-in charging port. It has the USB/Always on charging port, 4-in-1 media card reader, audio combo jack and Novo recovery port. On the opposite side is a pair of USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, Ethernet port and a Kensington lock slot. There’s also a heat vent in the back under the hinge for temperature management.
