Dell claims this is the world’s smallest 13-inch business-class Ultrabook. With a robust build, the Latitude 13 can endure the rigour of business-use. The Ultrabook comes with an InfinityEdge display, which has an ultra-thin bezel around the screen maximising the viewing area for for presentations, documents and videos. In addition, the Latitude 13 contains the industry-standard USB Type-C allowing one cable for docking, power, video, audio and data.

It also includes Thunderbolt 3 for 8x faster data transfer than USB 3.0, allowing end users to power two 4k displays simultaneously. The laptop offers extended battery life and advanced security features – including a smartcard reader, fingerprint reader, RFID reader, and security and encryption software.

According to Dell, this is one of the lightest 12.5-inch 2-in-1s available and provides the best of both worlds for those who want the full functionality of a laptop, that is easily converted into a tablet. With a slim 8mm screen, hardened glass and a magnesium unibody build, the 7000 is the only business 2-in-1 with a 4K UltraSharp UHD touch display.

The Dell Latitude 11 5000 Series 2-in-1 is a thin, lightweight 10.8-inch business-class 2-in-1 Designed with beautiful, premium materials including lightweight magnesium and hardened glass. With a weight of just 1.56 pounds, the 2-in-1 is a simple, portable device that provides a seamless transition between tablet and laptop modes with strong pen accuracy for capturing hand-written inputs via the optional stylus. In addition, Dell also announced 3 new monitors, its first Dell UltraSharp 30 OLED monitor with 4K HD resolution, the Dell UltraSharp InfinityEdge monitors, and the Dell UltraSharp 24 Wireless monitor.

Well-known mobile accessories maker Moshi was back at CES and showing off its latest crop of accessories, including new power banks and a new line of headphones.Moshi is calling its new series of portable battery banks the IonBank, and they’re adding three different models, each with increasing capacity: the IonBank 3K, the IonBank 5K, and the IonBank 10K will offer users roughly 3000, 5000, and 10000 mAh, respectively. The company has added features like built-in Lightning and USB cables and vegan leather covers.

We stopped by to check them out – while they don’t seem to be anything revolutionary, we were still impressed by the higher-end look and feel. The new line offers fashionable alternatives to Mophie and other brands. Moshi says new circuitry in the IonBanks prioritizes the iOS device when charging – so your phone will always get powered first. You’ll be able to snag one of these next month starting at $65.

The most eye-catching new trend (literally), was the inclusion of stunning OLED displays on a handful of new systems. This display technology has been on the periphery of the television industry for years, but until recently, was too expensive to be practical. Now, big OLED TVs are coming close to mainstream prices, and OLED screens are starting to show up in laptops, too.

The first example we saw was the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga, a high-end take on that familiar hybrid line, where it made images nearly jump off the screen. Dell added OLED to a revamped Alienware 13, and the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is a slim Windows tablet with an AMOLED display (a slightly different implementation of the technology).

An OLED display isn't going to make your computer run faster, and it's going to be a premium add-on, with prices starting at $1,500 and going up from there. But, it's the kind of technology that once you see it on a friend or coworker's OLED laptop, you'll have immediate screen envy and start scheming for your next upgrade.

The traditional gray-box desktop may still be a zombie category, but other types of desktops were everywhere. One especially clever idea was the Lenovo ThinkCentre 610S, a compact desktop that looks like it would make a great little media center. Perched on top of the pyramid-like shape is a wireless projector for turning any room into a mini home theater. Lenovo also took aim at the popular iMac all-in-one with the slim ThinkCentre X1.

Origin PC impressed with its compact Chronos gaming desktop, with clever magnetic feet for swapping between vertical and horizontal configurations; while Asus offered a room-filling ROG GT51, a powerful gaming rig that comes with an NFC wrist strap for unlocking a hidden hard drive partition.

But the most talked-about gaming rig of the week was the Razer Blade Stealth, a slim black ultrabook with an RGB backlit keyboard. It has no special gaming muscle by itself, but instead connects to a (sold-separately) external box that contains a desktop graphics card. That's an idea that's been tried many times before, with limited success -- the difference here is that the GPU box connects to the laptop via a simple USB-C cable, and the laptop itself starts at a very reasonable $999.

Gaming all-in-one desktops are also an idea that's been tried before, and also with mixed results. We liked that the Origin PC Omni used desktop, rather than laptop, parts inside, and that it came built inside a curved 34-inch screen. Velocity Micro and other boutique PC builders are crafting similar systems, based on the same off-the-shelf chassis. The next big challenge for gaming PCs will come in March when the first Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets ship. The systems requirements to play Oculus games are sky high and exclude nearly every laptop, no matter how powerful.

Yes, you can drop many thousands on some of the computers mentioned here, but more interesting may be just how little you can get away with spending. The $200 laptop is the new normal for budget shoppers, with HP, Lenovo and other companies building low-end clamshells perfectly fine for casual Web surfing or video streaming. Dell is now getting in on the game, with the colorful Inspiron 11 3000. It's similar to those other models, Celeron processor, 11-inch screen, small hard drive and just a little RAM, but the candy colored rainbow of design options help it feel a little more fun.

One of the sleeper hits of last year's CES was the Intel Compute Stick, a tiny Atom-powered desktop in a chunky stick about the size of Fire TV or Roku stick. The second-gen version was announced this week, and is shipping immediately. It adds a second USB port, updated professor and better Wi-Fi -- not groundbreaking changes, but in a device so stripped to the bone, every little bit helps. It's not the computer for everyone, or for every day, but at $159, it's a great portable backup PC, or an easy way to turn any TV or monitor into a presentation machine.

You can see a hands-on discussion of many of these systems in our annual video showcase of the best PCs of CES. My co-host Sean Hollister adds a couple of predictions for post-CES PCs: Standardized USB C external battery packs will allow manufacturers to keep pushing thinner without worrying much about battery life; and even in 2016, touchscreens still won't be standard.

The vast technological progress that has been made since the invention of the computer chip in the mid-20th century can be simply told in one story: Moore’s Law. Every couple of years, the number of transistors – the switches whose “on” or “off” functions are the building blocks of computing - that can fit on a chip doubles. Paired with other technology improvements, this has meant processors doubling in power every 18 months.

Moore’s Law has held remarkably steady for more than 40 years since it was first coined. It explains the amazing advances in electronics in just a generation; it’s the reason the smartphones in billions of pockets are thousands of times more powerful than the best computers of a few decades ago. But when it comes to the batteries that power these devices, there is no equivalent to Moore’s Law. The lithium-ion technology present in a smartphone or laptop hasn’t changed significantly since it was first commercialised by Sony in 1991. What powers our cars is even more ancient: the fundamental designs of the internal combustion engine and lead-acid batteries in every popular vehicle have barely changed in decades. For much of the history of these designs, there has been little incentive to change them – they have worked perfectly well for a long time, and batteries were rarely front of mind. Mobile phones in the early 2000s would last days on end without being charged.
