Razer is far from the first company to have thought about creating an external-GPU solution that can add this extra layer of modularity and capability to laptops. Sony did something similar with the VAIO Z back in 2011, and at last year's CES Alienware introduced its own Graphics Amplifier. That accessory box did the things the Razer Core promises, but used a proprietary connector and was compatible only with Alienware's rather bulky laptops. The difference this year is that Razer is using the new standard USB-C connector, relying on the expanded bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3 to handle the high-speed communication requirements of a pixel-crunching GPU. At launch, the Razer Core is only compatible with the Blade Stealth, but Razer tells me that it's "not doing anything to close off the Thunderbolt 3 connection to make it proprietary [and would] love to see as many devices as possible compatible with it."
Yes, it sounds like another naive dream: a world where any laptop with a USB-C connection can simply plug into a powerful desktop box and suddenly transform into a modern gaming machine. There are indeed major challenges on the road ahead. Alienware has spent the past year working out bugs and imperfections with its external-GPU solution, and Razer's had a few hiccups here at CES when demonstrating the Blade Stealth and Core working together. This is the very definition of immature technology, and only the boldest and bravest should be jumping on board at such an early stage. Another important consideration: we don't even know how much the Razer Core will cost yet.
This CES has clearly drawn the outline of a future where full-power graphics cards can be as easy to plug in and deploy on a laptop as they already are on a desktop PC. Razer will not be alone in this venture, and I expect Acer, Asus, and Lenovo — three companies who have shown a distinct interest in expanding their sales of gaming gear — to offer their own takes on the USB-C-connected external GPU box. Even if gaming isn't everyone's priority, the rapid rise of VR will make a powerful, high-quality graphics processor an indispensable part of any future PC.
He wanted to know whether he should keep it plugged in all the time or disconnect it from power each time it’s charged up.The recommendations from me and from computer manufacturers have changed over the years as battery technology has changed.I’m a Macintosh user, so I tend to turn to Apple for my battery longevity advice.Apple says its lithium-ion batteries don’t need to be run down to empty before recharging and keeping your laptop (or iPad or iPhone) plugged in as much as possible won’t hurt the battery.
Apple batteries should last for hundreds of charge cycles. The exact number is different, depending on the device. What constitutes a charge cycle? A 100 percent drain of the battery — or using 50 percent of the battery, charging it up overnight and using 50 percent of the battery again. Those two 50 percent usages add up to one charge cycle.Likewise, using 10 percent of your battery each day for 10 days would equal one charge cycle.

I’ve had laptops reach more than 1,100 charge cycles and still provide good power. Apple says its goal is for devices to hold 80 percent of their charging capacity for a “high number of charge cycles, which varies depending on the product.”Apple says its batteries are designed to fast charge for the first 80 percent of a charge and trickle charge for the last 20 percent. They say the slower charging at the end eases the current to extend battery life.My advice is to stay plugged in whenever you can and leave devices on the charger when they’re not in use overnight. I like to leave the house with a full charge on all my devices.
Of course, you should monitor your devices for overheating and remove cases during charges if your device gets too hot. What about long-term storage?Apple says that to maximize the battery life of its gadgets, you should store them powered off with about 50 percent left on the battery charge. You should also keep the device and battery away from extreme heat or cold.
Finally, it you’re not going to be using it for longer periods of time, you should charge it up to 50 percent every six months.I realize this advice is pretty Apple-specific, but your device manufacturer should have a page on its website about best practices for battery longevity. There are two sizes of MacBook Pro models available from Apple right now - a 13in model, last updated in March 2015, and a 15in model, last updated in May 2015.We anticipate that Apple will be updating these models at some point in the first half of this year, perhaps at WWDC in June.
We’d like to see a bit of a makeover, but it’s what’s inside that counts and what’s inside currently is the Intel Broadwell processor in the 13in model (updated in March 2015) and inexplicably, the even older Haswell processor in the 15in version which was updated in May 2015.We say inexplicably, but part of that blame must lie at the feet of Intel, who was particularly lax at updating its chips in 2015. It seems likely that the MacBook Pro range will finally get the Skylake chips at some point in the first part of 2016. That will make a lot of professional Mac users very happy. We hope to hear more at the rumoured March event but it may take until WWDC in June before we hear anything.
We anticipate that the new MacBook Pro models will feature Skylake processors, which will apparently bring wire-free computing capabilities to laptops. The new 13in and especially the 15in MacBook Pro are likely to feature a Skylake processor.Skylake will bring significant performance gains. In addition, new wireless technology in Skylake will replace display, charging and data transfer cables. A Skylake MacBook Pro could be an even faster machine.Another point to note. Currently the 15in models offer quad-core i7 processors, which means they compare very favourably with the 27in iMacs, which also sport quad-core processors, although these are i5 rather than i7.
Apple has three types of laptop. The best option for pupils is the MacBook Air. The MacBook and MacBook Pro are more expensive and suited to professional use.Apple's operating system is intuitive and ideal for non-technical users. Derived from UNIX, Apple's operating system gets touted as more secure than Windows.Because it runs on hardware whose configuration is set by Apple, it is also less crash prone. This said, Apple gear usually commands a price premium.

Samsung has pulled the wraps from the Chromebook 3 and this was one of the few launches that was low key and didn’t actually garner much attention. The product itself is a 2.5-pound notebook constructed with reinforced metal body and a 11-inch display set to resolve at 1366 x 768 pixels. The Chromebook 3 is powered by the Intel Celeron N3050 and will be made available in both 2GB/3GB RAM configurations. On the storage front, the Chromebook 3 offers 16GB of on board storage. The laptop is well endowed connectivity wise as it comes with Bluetooth 4.0, 720p Webcam, USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 Port and an HDMI out.
The keyboard ergonomics seems something that the Samsung has attended to and as a result the keyboard comes with UL certified keycaps and the display is hinged to offer a tilt of 180-degrees. The best part of the Chromebook 3 is the 33Wh battery pack that is expected to last for a whopping 11-hours.It is refreshing to see manufactures actually coming up with the Chrome version of their laptops, as we recently reported Lenovo ThinkPad 13 will be offered with Chrome. Although some might question the very existence of Chromebooks it still is a very peppy OS that suits the Internet using needs. I had used the Chromebook for nearly an year and apart from the dearth of apps browsing experience was flawless in fact it was way better than the other operating systems. On the contrary it would be great if Google tweaks its Software for Hardware policy so that the Chrome machines can accommodate both Chrome OS and Windows 10.
The Chromebook 3 is expected to hit the shelves in early 2016 and will start selling across multiple sales channel including Samsung.com.LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today added two new laptops to the award-winning Notebook 9 line: the 13.3-inch Notebook 9 and the 15-inch Notebook 9.
