The Ideapad 100S scored a solid 2,195 on Geekbench 3, a synthetic benchmark that measures overall performance. That's on par with the Asus EeeBook X205TA (2,212), which has the same CPU as the 100S, but nearly double the Celeron N3050-powered Acer Aspire One Cloudbook 11's mark of 1,285.

The Ideapad 100S's 32GB of eMMC storage memory took 2 minutes and 24 seconds to complete the Laptop File Transfer test, which involves copying 4.97GB of mixed-media files. That's a rate of 31 MBps, which is a little less than you'd get with most mechanical hard drives, and also slower than the Cloudbook 11 (34.6 MBps) and the X205TA (41.4 MBps).

Forget about crunching large sets of data on this low-cost laptop. The Ideapad 100S took a glacial 22 minutes and 5 seconds to complete the OpenOffice Spreadsheet test, which matches 20,000 names with their addresses. The X205TA took a similar 21 minutes and 36 seconds, but the Cloudbook 11, which is slower on other benchmarks, finished in just 11 minutes and 54 seconds.

You can watch movies on the Ideapad 100S, but forget about gaming. Lenovo's low-cost laptop scored 15,081 on 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, a synthetic graphics benchmark. That's about the same as the X205TA (15,111), but a bit behind the Cloudbook 11 (18,314).

Battery Life The Ideapad 100S lasted a strong 9 hours and 48 minutes on the Laptop Battery Test, which involves continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi at 100 nits of brightness. That's well ahead of the Acer Cloudbook 11's time of 8 hours and 4 minutes. However, the Asus EeeBook X205TA lasted a full 12:05, while Lenovo's 100 Chromebook endured for 11:19.

The Ideapad 100S comes with a free, one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal, which you can activate simply by opening a preloaded Office install app and signing in to your Microsoft account. The subscription, which would cost around $60 if you bought it on your own, entitles you to install and use the latest (2016) versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote for 365 days and includes 1TB of cloud storage.

DELL HAS MADE SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES BEHIND THE SCENES Two other key changes to the new Dell XPS 13 provide performance improvements. Dell has refreshed the processor with Intel’s latest Skylake chip, and the non-touch models use the Core i5, while the touchscreen version is powered by Intel’s Core i7. Apart from the base model, all of Dell’s new XPS 13 variants ship with faster solid state drives. I haven’t noticed a huge change in performance from the model earlier this year, but the addition of Windows 10 certainly makes the new XPS 13 feel snappier. Running Chrome, Slack, Office apps, Photoshop, and a variety of Windows 10 apps doesn’t seem to slow the XPS 13 down at all. I’ve been using it to work daily, and it has never frozen up or frustrated me at all. Dell hasn’t loaded the XPS 13 with a lot of bloatware apps either, and a McAfee trial can easily be removed quickly.

Dell’s chip changes are also designed to improve battery life. Dell is claiming up to 18 hours of battery life for the 1080p model. That sounds like phenomenal stamina, but unsurprisingly, the reality is far less. In our Verge battery test it lasted 10 hours, which is about what we’ve come to expect from a laptop of this size. During my own daily use the XPS 13 usually lasted around 7 or 8 hours of average usage before I’d have to recharge. That’s enough for me to comfortably leave and travel to a meeting and work away from my desk, and it’s close to the dream of working a full day without charge. I would still like a little more battery life and for the XPS 13 to get closer to Dell’s over-the-top claim.

Full credit to the company for its imagination, though, and for keeping costs low. It's always good to have options, but considering that there's a choice between the full 3-in-1 package priced at Rs. 19,450 and its 2-in-1 configuration (minus the desktop dock) for Rs. 14,900, we would save some money and take the latter.

It comes with 8GB RAM (4GB on board and 4GB of DDR3L RAM), and a 1TB of 5400rpm HDD. On the software side, the computer runs the 64-bit version of Windows 10.
