Microsoft has previously highlighted its ‘born in the cloud’ partners – those that didn’t exist before products like Office 365 were available. It says these partners are generally small, nimble and take the time to understand their customers and what solutions are best for them.
Away from the cloud, Microsoft also recently launched a couple of new programmes for UK resellers. EduWins offers resellers channel marketing investment and a channel rebate, while Shape the Future is a ‘breadth programme’ focusing on low-cost Windows SKUs.
The latter went live on October 1st and is a pilot scheme, focusing solely on resellers selling Windows education devices to schools.Of course, in terms of macro trends 2015 has been the year of Windows 10 for Microsoft, following the launch of its latest OS in July.Windows 10 has been positively received by consumers and will undoubtedly be driving the next phase of product evolution in the PC technology space, with tablet and mobile now also a core focus to the firm’s approach. No matter which you buy or how fancy the leather sounds, there’s still nothing sexy or luxurious about the Time Round. Its design is more like a $30 Timex or Swatch than something a guy in white gloves would lift out of a glass case. It’s not ugly, though, it’s just utilitarian. (The best-looking models are the ones that put time markers on the giant bezel so it looks like the ring is that big on purpose.) It’s made of fairly cheap-feeling plastic, and I worry about how the four mushy buttons will hold up long-term, but I’ve had no problem with it so far.
In turning its blocky rectangle into a sleek circle, Pebble made two big sacrifices. The first is that the Time Round is much less waterproof than the other models. It’s not waterproof, actually. It’s just splashproof, which means you can wear it while you wash your hands but not in the pool or shower. For most people, that won’t really matter.
This was evidenced recently when Microsoft asked its enterprise customers via its blog how it can improve the adoption of Surface tablets and Windows 10 in the workplace. In addition to this, beginning in early 2016, Microsoft will have a new enterprise warranty and services available to customers via its commercial resellers.
Delegates at Boot Camp North 2015 will be able to find out more details about the scheme, plus the latest on Microsoft’s software and hardware strategy.“Technology is always changing and PCR Boot Camp North is a good opportunity to look at how the market has evolved recently and how partners can embrace this to build a profitable Microsoft business,” says Wills.
“Partners play a critical role in delivering Microsoft’s technology strategy, so we are looking forward to engaging with them and hearing how they differentiate themselves.”
Microsoft also has a few treats up its sleeve for Boot Camp North delegates: “With the recent launch of Office 2016 this year Microsoft will be giving away free Office 365 subscriptions, which is always up to date with the latest applications,” says Wills. “Customers will be entitled to one copy of Office 365 which is to be used for personal use only.”
PCR Boot Camp North will once again specifically cater for retailers and resellers in the Midlands, North, Scotland and Wales. It’s completely free for dealers and system builders to attend and all will go home with a free gift – a choice of two premium speakers.

Google's Nexus line of phones has always been capable of grabbing headlines, but it arguably wasn't until LG stepped on board as a manufacturing partner that the brand found commercial success. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were both solid hits, with the latter being held up as the most accomplished offering yet, delivering decent specifications at a mid-range price point.
This was the golden era of Nexus phones. Google tapped into something very special and consumers en masse loved the proposition: affordable, feature-rich handsets that emphasised the best aspects of Android without any unwanted bloatware. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 also offered users a way out of contracts with networks. The phones were so cheap, you could buy one outright and then shop around for the best SIM deals. Basically, a HUGE win, win for everybody.
But then something, err, bad happened. Google turned its back on the winning Nexus model and tried, well, something a little different...After a minor slip-up last year with the massive Nexus 6 - a phone which, if rumours are to be believed, was rushed to market after the collapse of Google's premium-focused Android Silver concept - it's service as normal this year. LG is now back in the saddle (alongside newcomer Huawei, which is producing the larger and more expensive Nexus 6P) and has created the true successor to the Nexus 5 in the form of the Google Nexus 5X. Does this sequel hit all the right notes, or is it little more than a futile exercise in nostalgia? We're about to find out.
Nexus 5X Review: Design & Display Back when the original Nexus 5 launched, the idea of an all-plastic smartphone wasn't unusual - in fact, in the Android arena, it was practically the norm. What a difference a couple of years makes. Metal-clad Google phones are now more common, with the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC and Sony all incorporating the premium material into their phone designs. Consumers seem to view metal-cased phones as a more premium proposition, and even last year's Motorola-made Nexus 6 mixed metal and plastic to pleasing effect.
And largely speaking this year’s phone market has been pretty dull, save for a few strong releases from Samsung and Motorola. Everything else -- including the iPhone 6s -- never really set our pulses racing. The HTC One M9 was a damp squib. Ditto ALL of Sony’s releases. And 2015 is an incremental year for iPhone updates. All in pretty dull stuff compared to the innovation we saw in 2013/14. Nevertheless, you can usually rely on Google to shake things up a little. And this year’s handsets were no exception.
While the Nexus 6P - made by Huawei and the sister phone to the 5X - boasts a lush metal frame, LG's 2015 Nexus is an all-plastic affair. The front of the phone is black and largely featureless save for the front-facing camera, two grilles (one for the earpiece, one for the speaker) and an LED notification light (hidden in the bottom grille and curiously turned-off by default), while the back, non-removeable panel comes in either "Carbon" (black), "Quartz" (white) or "Ice" (light green). On the rear you'll find the camera, LED flash, fingerprint scanner and that oh-so-familiar Nexus logo. The power and volume buttons are on the right-hand side of the device, while on the bottom there's a USB Type C port and the 3.5mm headphone socket. The left-hand side houses the Nano SIM tray.
